Independent living at Mirabelle is all about lifestyle preference—not a form of senior care. It can provide some peace of mind to seniors who no longer feel comfortable living alone, or who are looking for a more active community to call home. Independent living communities are usually more affordable, but unlikely to be covered by Medicare, Medicaid or insurance. Involvement with staff is largely dependent on your preferences, and this senior living option does not provide access to medical or nursing care.

Assisted living is a good option for people who are no longer able to live alone, but don't need intensive nursing care. Residents still enjoy privacy and independence, but help is available 24/7 with the simple push of a button, and our team members will assist them with basic life tasks. Assisted living facilities in Dadeland typically cost more than independent living, but are more likely to be covered by long-term-care insurance, employee benefits programs and Medicaid.

Both memory care and assisted living offer supportive care to people with a range of health issues, including cognitive impairments. Memory care, however, caters specifically to those with Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia through dementia-friendly activities and staff trained in the psychological and physical effects of cognitive impairments. Memory care can either be offered on its own or, more often, provided as a service in a separate area of an assisted living facility.

Medicare will not typically cover the non-medical care expenses associated with independent living or assisted living in Florida. Medicare typically only covers a short-term stay in a skilled nursing or rehabilitation community while an older adult is recovering from an illness or injury. It can also cover in-home rehab care performed by a home health nurse or therapist.

Mirabelle was designed to be reminiscent of home, offering private apartments and independence for our residents. In fact, many of our independent and assisted living residents drive their own cars, cook some of their own meals, and come and go as they please.

Skilled nursing facilities are the best choice for those who need assistance with tasks that go beyond the activities of daily living.
